PKU4 - China's Original International Strategy: the Belt and Road Initiatives

2 July 2018 – 27 July 2018
Hosted by Peking University

BRI is China’s long-term, original, and international strategy to promote China Dream and Human destiny community created by President Xi Jin-ping with great impact on the world order after five years practice. It will be the most important strategy of China to provide the public goods and new type of leadership for the world. This course will help students to understand BRI’s strategic nature, strategic decision making, strategic implementation, and strategic management. The students can also have the opportunities to participate in the real construction of BRI with the guidance of Professor Zhai Kun.

Field Trip

Two field trips in Beijing

Target Audience

  • Bachelor students
  • Master students
  • PhD students

PhD students need to consult with instructor about the appropriateness of this course for their research interests

Delivery Methods & Learning Outcomes

The course will be carried out in the following forms:

  1. Lectures (general introduction and theories)
  2. Student participation (presentation based on reading materials + discussion)
  3. Observation (observation and analysis on BRI)
  4. Fieldtrip(s)
  5. Workshop (model symposium and policy-consulting meeting)
  6. Final assignment (based on your own research interest)

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to apply related theories into practical use.

Assessment

Class performance (class attendance, presentation and discussion): 20%

Observation and Analysis (observation, analysis and report): 20%

Fieldtrip(s): 20%

Workshop: 20%

Final assignment: 20%

Credit equivalent at host university & contact hours

Credits at host university: 2 credits
28 contact hours (classroom) + 4 field trip hours

Accommodation

Students must arrive by 1 July 2018.
Students will be able to check in from 30 June 2018.
